Reading Instruction Competence Assessment (RICA):
The Reading Instruction Competence Assessment (RICA) is being retired and will no longer be offered after June 30, 2025. The Commission on Teacher Credentialing has adopted a transition plan for the RICA Written Examination and RICA Video Performance Assessment pursuant to the Commission's work to implement Senate Bill 488 (Chap. 678, Stats. 2021) , commonly referred to as SB 488.

The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing has approved a secondary passing standard at its December 2023 meeting for the following performance assessments: CalTPA, EdSp CalTPA, and edTPA. See PSA-24-02 for more information about the secondary passing standard.

- Vouchers are available for purchase by state education agencies and educator preparation programs to provide candidates with full or partial credit toward registration fees.
- For CalAPA, CalTPA, and EdSP CalTPA:
- Review participation guidelines and faculty resources for the CalAPA, CalTPA, and EdSp CalTPA programs.
- Become an Assessor: View the required qualifications and apply to score the CalAPA, CalTPA, and EdSp CalTPA.
